    June's HerStory features Alison Bechdel, an award-winning cartoonist and author.  Originally known for her comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For, she came to critical and commercial success with her graphic memoir Fun Home which was subsequently adapted as a musical that won a Tony Award for Best Musical in 2015.  She was a 2014 recipient of MacArthur Genius Award.  She is also know for originating the Bechdel Test.  This test is a measure of the representation of women in film and other fiction. The test asks whether a work features at least two women who talk to each other about something other than a man.  In addition it is used as an indicator for the active presence of women in the entire field of film and other fiction, and to call attention to gender inequality in fiction. Media industry studies indicate that films that pass the test perform better financially than those that do not.
